নিচের বাক্যের কোন অংশে ভুল আছে? Each of the boys / have been given / a new book. / No error
বাক্যের subject হল Each, of the boys শুধু তার পরিচয়। Each সবসময় একবচনের verb নেয়, তাই have been given হবে has been given। প্রথম অংশ ঠিক, কারণ Each of-এর পরে বহুবচন noun (boys) বসাই নিয়ম।

- শুদ্ধ: Each of the boys has been given a new book.

Cattle দেখতে একবচন, কিন্তু শব্দটা সবসময় বহুবচন এবং বহুবচনের verb নেয়। তাই are grazing ঠিক, in the field-ও ঠিক। বাক্যে কোনো ভুল নেই।
- cattle, police, people, poultry: সবসময় বহুবচন
- cattle-এর শেষে -s বসে না (cattles ভুল)
- is grazing বসানোর কথা ভেবে দ্বিতীয় অংশ বাছা: এটাই ফাঁদ।

Five years একটা সময়ের দৈর্ঘ্য, তার আগে বসে for, since নয়। Since বসে সময়ের শুরুর বিন্দুর আগে: since 2020, since Monday। has been living (present perfect continuous) এখানে ঠিক, কারণ থাকাটা এখনও চলছে।
- since + শুরুর সময় (since 2020, since morning)
- for + সময়ের দৈর্ঘ্য (for five years, for two hours)
- শুদ্ধ: She has been living in Kolkata for five years.
- কতক্ষণ? → for। কবে থেকে? → since।
নিচের বাক্যের কোন অংশে ভুল আছে? Between you and I, / the plan / will not work. / No error
Between একটা preposition, আর preposition-এর পরে pronoun বসে object form-এ: me, him, her, us, them। তাই between you and I হবে between you and me। বাকি দুটো অংশ ঠিক।
- preposition-এর পরে object form: me, him, her, us, them
- between you and me, for him and me, with her and me
- you and I শুনতে ভদ্র লাগে বলে অনেকে ঠিক ভাবেন; preposition-এর পরে তা ভুল।
- you বাদ দিয়ে পড়ুন: between I শোনায় ভুল, between me ঠিক।

Hardly আর Scarcely-র জোড়া হল when (বা before), than নয়। than বসে No sooner-এর সঙ্গে। তাই than the train left হবে when the train left। Hardly বাক্যের শুরুতে থাকায় had I reached (উল্টো ক্রম) ঠিক।

Neither … nor দিয়ে দুটো subject জুড়লে verb মেলে কাছের subject-এর সঙ্গে। এখানে কাছের subject the students (বহুবচন), তাই was হবে were। Either … or-এর ক্ষেত্রেও একই নিয়ম।
- Neither A nor B / Either A or B: verb মেলে B-র সঙ্গে
- শুদ্ধ: Neither the teacher nor the students were present.
- Neither the students nor the teacher was present: এটাও ঠিক
- Neither দেখে সবসময় একবচন ভাবা: Neither একা subject হলে একবচন, কিন্তু Neither … nor-এ কাছের subject ঠিক করে।

Information একটা uncountable noun: এর বহুবচন (informations) হয় না, আর তার আগে many নয়, much বা a lot of বসে। শুদ্ধ: He gave me much (বা a lot of) information about the exam। advice, furniture, luggage, equipment-এর ক্ষেত্রেও একই নিয়ম।

- গুনতে হলে: a piece of information, two pieces of advice

Unless মানেই if … not, অর্থাৎ শব্দটা নিজেই না-বাচক। তার সঙ্গে আবার not বসালে দুবার না হয়ে অর্থ উল্টে যায়। শুদ্ধ: Unless you work hard, you will not pass the exam। দ্বিতীয় অংশের not ঠিক, কারণ সেটা মূল বাক্যের।
