WBPSC ক্লার্কশিপ পরীক্ষা 2024 (বিজ্ঞপ্তি নং 12/2024)-এর পার্ট-1-এ ইংরেজি থেকে 30টি MCQ থাকবে, আর অফিসিয়াল সিলেবাসে আছে grammar, sentence structure ও correct usage। এর মধ্যে Subject-Verb Agreement এমন একটি বিষয়, যেখানে নিয়ম কম, কিন্তু ফাঁদ অনেক। এই লেখায় নিয়মগুলো, 5টি ধাপে ধাপে উদাহরণ ও সাধারণ ভুল পাবেন, শেষে 12টি প্রশ্নের প্র্যাকটিস কুইজ।

মূল নিয়ম
Verb-এর সঙ্গে subject-এর number (একবচন বা বহুবচন) মিলতে হবে। Present tense-এ singular subject-এর verb-এ সাধারণত s/es যোগ হয় (he writes, she has, it is), আর plural subject-এ verb সাধারণ রূপে থাকে (they write, we have, they are)। I-এর সঙ্গে am, you-র সঙ্গে are।

ধাপে ধাপে 5টি উদাহরণ
উদাহরণ 1: Each of the girls ___ (has / have) a bag.
ধাপ 1: subject খুঁজুন: Each (girls নয়)। ধাপ 2: each সবসময় singular। ধাপ 3: তাই has। উত্তর: Each of the girls has a bag।
উদাহরণ 2: Neither the manager nor the clerks ___ (is / are) ready.
ধাপ 1: neither-nor আছে, তাই কাছের subject দেখুন। ধাপ 2: nor-এর পরে clerks, plural। ধাপ 3: তাই are। উত্তর: Neither the manager nor the clerks are ready।
উদাহরণ 3: The principal, along with the teachers, ___ (was / were) present.
ধাপ 1: along with-এর আগের subject The principal। ধাপ 2: along with-এর পরের অংশ বাদ দিন, বাক্যটা দাঁড়ায় The principal ___ present। ধাপ 3: singular, তাই was।
উদাহরণ 4: Half of the milk ___ (is / are) spoilt, but half of the eggs ___ (is / are) fine.
Half, most, all, some, a lot of, 50 percent-এর পরের noun দেখুন। milk uncountable, তাই is। eggs plural, তাই are। উত্তর: Half of the milk is spoilt, but half of the eggs are fine।
উদাহরণ 5: He is one of those students who ___ (is / are) always punctual.
ধাপ 1: who-এর আগের noun খুঁজুন: students। ধাপ 2: one of those students বলতে বোঝায় অনেকের মধ্যে একজন, কিন্তু who বসেছে সেই students-এর জন্য। ধাপ 3: plural, তাই are। (তুলনা করুন: He is the only one of the students who is punctual, এখানে only one থাকায় singular।)
শর্টকাট ও সাধারণ ভুল
- মাঝের শব্দ বাদ দিন। of, with, along with, as well as, in addition to-এর পরের অংশ কেটে বাক্যটা ছোট করে দেখুন।
- of-এর আগেরটাই subject। The cost of the books is high: subject cost, books নয়।
- everyone, everybody, someone, anybody, nobody, nothing সবসময় singular। few, many, several, both সবসময় plural।
- Collective noun (committee, jury, team, class) একটি দল হিসেবে কাজ করলে singular। the police সবসময় plural।
- There is/are-এ verb পরের subject-এর সঙ্গে মেলে: There are two options। There is a reason।
- ফাঁদ: The number (singular) আর A number of (plural) গুলিয়ে ফেলা। ফাঁদ: Mathematics, news, economics-এ s দেখে plural ভাবা। ফাঁদ: or/nor-এ প্রথম subject দেখে verb বসানো।
পরীক্ষার্থীদের জন্য এর অর্থ কী
পার্ট-1-এ ইংরেজির 30টি প্রশ্নসহ পার্ট-1-এ প্রতিটি ভুল উত্তরে 0.25 নম্বর কাটা যাবে (পুরো পার্ট-1-এর জন্য), তাই নিয়ম না জেনে আন্দাজ করা ঠিক নয়। উপরের টেবিলের 12টি নিয়ম মুখস্থ করুন, তারপর কুইজের 12টি প্রশ্ন নিজে সমাধান করে উত্তরের ব্যাখ্যা মিলিয়ে নিন। যে প্রশ্নে ভুল হলো, সেই নিয়মটা খাতায় লিখে রাখুন এবং তিন দিন পরে আবার চেষ্টা করুন। আবেদনের শেষ তারিখ 26.10.2026, আবেদন করা বাকি থাকলে আগে আবেদন গাইড দেখুন।

Each of the boys is বা are: কোনটি ঠিক?
Each সবসময় singular, তাই Each of the boys is। boys শুধু বর্ণনা, মূল subject each।
Neither-nor বাক্যে verb কীভাবে বাছব?
nor-এর পরের subject দেখুন। সেটি singular হলে singular verb, plural হলে plural verb। Neither he nor his friends are ready।
Mathematics বা news-এর সঙ্গে is বসে না are?
দুটোই singular: Mathematics is a subject, The news is true। শেষের s দেখে ভুল করবেন না।
A number of আর The number of-এর পার্থক্য কী?
A number of মানে অনেক, তাই plural verb: A number of students are absent। The number of মানে সংখ্যাটি, তাই singular verb: The number of students is 40।
WBPSC ক্লার্কশিপের ইংরেজি অংশে কত নম্বর?
