  • The final merit list is prepared on Paper-II marks only.
  • There is negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer in Paper-II.

Certificates for reserved categories

Claims for EWS, SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), Ex-Serviceman, MSP or disability need a certificate from a competent West Bengal authority. The certificate must be obtained by the closing date; no claim is entertained later, and a candidate who cannot produce it at document verification is rejected.

  • EWS: Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure-C); renewed certificate needed before the exam and at appointment.
  • SC, ST, OBC (NCL): issued by the Sub-Divisional Officer of the sub-division (in Kolkata, the District Magistrate or an authorised ADM, South 24-Parganas, or the District Welfare Officer, Kolkata). OBC candidates must submit a renewed Non-Creamy Layer certificate before the exam and at appointment.
  • PwBD: Medical Board certificate; for a scribe or compensatory time (20 minutes per hour), Appendix-I from the Chief Medical Officer or Medical Superintendent of a Government health institution.
  • Ex-Serviceman: certificate from Army, Air Force or Naval Headquarters showing joining, service period and release dates.
  • MSP: certificate and the applicable Form 1/2/3/4 under the Labour Department notifications dated 01.03.2011 and 21.09.2016 (numbers in the original advertisement).

SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates of other states may apply for unreserved posts as General candidates. Except for PwBD, MSP and Ex-Serviceman, reservation benefits are for West Bengal candidates only.

What this means for aspirants

  • Check your route. With a 3-year Survey Engineering Diploma, apply under Route 1. With an ITI certificate, confirm that you hold the 1-year experience proof and DGPS/ETS skills by the closing date.
  • Get certificates ready now. Category certificates must be in hand by 09.11.2026, and OBC/EWS ones must be renewed.
  • Do not wait for the last day. Both the application and the fee close at 3 p.m. on 09.11.2026.
  • Watch psc.wb.gov.in. The exam date is not yet announced.

How to prepare

The merit list depends on Paper-II alone, and half of its 200 marks (100) come from Survey Engineering. With 0.25 negative marking, blind guessing hurts.

  • Survey Engineering (100): follow the Diploma syllabus: chain and compass surveying, levelling, theodolite, total station, area and volume, maps and scales, basics of DGPS and GIS. Practise previous papers.
  • Elementary Mathematics (50): Madhyamik-level arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry and mensuration; solve timed sets daily.
  • English (50): vocabulary, grammar, synonyms-antonyms and sentence correction.
  • Paper-I (50, Bengali): practise letters, reports and grammar in writing. You must clear 30% here for Paper-II to count.
  • Mock tests: practise finishing Paper-II in 2 hours 30 minutes and choosing questions with negative marking in mind.
