UNESCO World Press Freedom Prize 2026
The 2026 UNESCO World Press Freedom Prize has been awarded to the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate. This honor recognizes the immense courage and dedication shown by journalists while working under the dire conditions of the ongoing civil war in Sudan.
Since the conflict began, over 680 incidents of journalist harassment have occurred in Sudan, and 34 journalists have lost their lives. The prize has been awarded since 1997 in memory of Colombian journalist Guillermo Cano Isaza. Notably, the 2025 prize was awarded to the Nicaraguan newspaper ‘La Prensa’.

World Migration Report 2026
According to the latest report by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), India emerged as the world’s largest remittance recipient in the 2024 fiscal year, receiving a total of 137 billion USD.
India is the only country in the world to cross the 100-billion-dollar mark. Mexico follows in second place with 68 billion USD, and China is third with 48 billion USD. Meanwhile, the United States remains the top country for sending remittances.

Cyber Crime in Bengaluru
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, ‘Crime in India 2024’, identifies Bengaluru as the city with the highest number of recorded cybercrime cases among Indian metros. A total of 17,561 cases were registered in 2024.
Bengaluru has a cybercrime rate of 206 per 100,000 population, with 72.6% of these incidents involving financial fraud. Mumbai and Hyderabad occupy the second and third spots, respectively.

New FRP for Sugarcane
The Central Government has fixed the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) for sugarcane at 365 rupees per quintal for the 2026 season. Per the Sugarcane Control Order 1966, sugar mills are legally obligated to purchase sugarcane from farmers at this minimum rate.
These prices are typically recommended by the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP). It is worth noting that while the Centre provides MSP for 23 crops, it sets an FRP for sugarcane.
